Sweet Exorcist Returns This Friday at the People's Pint

We'll be back this week, Friday the 12th, with our monthly all-vinyl deal, Sweet Exorcist. The Pint was closed for three days this week (oh, the torture!), but will be rocking on Friday night as resident DJs Andujar and B-COMING and guests roll through with some funky records. Come and drink, dance and hang as we pile up some funk, soul, bugalú, reggae, new wave and hip-hop jams for your pleasure.
The records start rolling at 10, the thing is free, and the beer is the best. Good food too, but remember the kitchen closes at showtime so get there early for the menu. The action lasts until 1. It's all ages to get in. And bring some records if you desire, because we're like that.
Immediately after, B-COMING and I fly to San Diego for some West Coast winter sun. See us off with a grand party!
For more info: 413-325-3382. The People's Pint is at 24 Federal St in downtown Greenfield.

New Year's Eve at Hope & Olive

In 1985 DJ Andujar was in sixth grade and still dreaming about losing his virginity. It's closing in on 2010 and he's also lost his mind: he'll be revisiting the stone-washed decade for the endtimes of this most recent one, the Bio-Tech decade. Yes, 2010 is glowing brightly in front of us with an illuminating embrace on a New England night. Yes, just another January 1st, 2010. Let's make it in style...mullets, MTV, friendship pins, painted buildings, A Flock of Seagulls.

We're hosting a New Year's Eve party with the Hope & Olive in Greenfield. Come for some amazing food and drinks (menu here), and stay for some 80s jams. Calling it "Wild Planet", DJs Andujar and 12XU will have some deep crates of 80s vinyl on hand for this decade's final booty shake. We'll be throwing down new wave, electro, pop and hip-hop, with some fun surprises as well! Of course we'll have the MJ, Madonna and Prince, but how about also Joy Division, the Smiths, the B-52's, Rob Base, Rick James...all on vinyl. What's your request?

The Hope & Olive has a full bar, an expansive menu and a dance floor ready for you. Located in downtown Greenfield (44 Hope St, corner of Olive), the Hope & Olive has blessed Franklin County with one of the friendliest and choicest spots for fine beer, a superb wine list and a menu with an appreciation for local growers. There is plenty of free parking and the night will be right.

Make your reservations for dinner or come down for the dance party. The records roll at 10 and will go till 2. No cover charge for this party.

Wednesday Night Jams!

www.peaceandrhythm.com

I'll be filling in for the esteemed Victor Signore on "Tabula Rasa". I've been long a fan of this eclectic radio show broadcast Wednesday nights at WMUA.org. Victor mixes up various ideas on sound, from abstract percussive avant-garde to "ethnic" folk the world over, with some saxophone blowouts, heavy grooves of all sorts and various nuttiness. I'll be doing an extended version starting at 530pm (ET) and running it until 8. Yulin's show "No Enemy" precedes and "Auditory Magic" follows. Expect to hear some local noise, international psych, Xenakis, death metal, free jazz, Oum Kalthum and other surprises. The playlist will be posted to this blog. Thanks Victor for allowing me the pleasure.

And how about the dancing crowd!!!! There will be a serious killer jam at the Hope & Olive at 9pm. I'll be joined by DJ 12XU for some all-vinyl enlightenment. The Hope & Olive is a real fun place with a good crowd. Enthusiastic and supportive...and a great beer menu I might add! We'll be bringing all vinyl (as usual!) of your favorite classics and some underknown records that are great for dancing. This will be a gem of a night, no doubt. We'll be spinning funk, bugalú, funky hip-hop, new wave, salsa, Motown, garage, afrobeat, some punk & reggae...and who knows what else! It's no cover and a cool spot with plenty of parking. And Happy Birthday to Jim, Sarah, and the other three or so birthdays that I'm sure I'll be toasting Wednesday night. Cheers!

And for those that feel the Turners side of things, keep in mind the trip that is the Montague Phantom Brain Exchange (#23...the pre-Thanksgiving Relaxation Station) will be transmitting with a special local DJ hobknob featuring MPBE curator Cloaca, Rob Forman, Ansel (from upstairs) and more. Interested parties should come thru with wax in hand. That'll be running from 9 til 1 at the Rendezvous in Turners Falls (3rd St & Ave A).

So there's lots of options for your holiday preparation. And no, I don't do that thing.
