Mass Tropica's Mike P on Radio Clandestino and at Mystery Train this coming Monday/Ayler film tix giveaway

(poster by Josh B)

Mike P rolls into Amherst on Monday for a double trouble visit. First he'll be joining Andujar live in-studio at WMUA for a special all-Peruvian sounds edition of Radio Clandestino, 230-430pm (ET).

Mike Pigott is a frequent guest on Clandestino, as well as a couple of turns at Rumba Psicodélica in Greenfield. He runs the Masstrópicas record label and is an all around swell guy and we'll be happy to have him with us. The man is obsessed with Peruvian music, from chichas to hardcore. He'll be spinning us some gems from his travels down there. We'll be hearing cumbias, "bumps", psych rock, salsa and more.

Then at 6, head over to Mystery Train Records on N. Pleasant St to hear Mike talk about Peruvian LPs and 45s before hearing some music from Steamrollers and Bunwinkies. Here are more details.

ALSO: I will be giving away a couple of tickets to My Name Is Albert Ayler, showing at Pleasant Street Cinema. The documentary screening of the great saxophonist will be Tuesday night, 7pm. It is part of the Seeing Sound series. Film details here. Here is some of my favorite Ayler music. Thanks to Amherst Cinema/Pleasant Street Theatre for spreading Ayler's gospel.

Zozo (ex-Fela Kuti)/Shokazoba/Andujar afro-psych-rumba at the Elevens Sat nite 7/24

Just because it's not noise don't mean it ain't an independent show worth checking. We're in this together to bring you one of the great bands of the Afrobeat Revival, Zozo Afrobeat. Based in NY, led by ex-Fela/King Sunny Adé/current Lauren Hill guitarist Kaleta (from Benin) and his Zozo group. Local afro-funk ensemble Shokazoba also play. Opening is DJ Andujar's Rumba Psicodélica, a vinyl/visuals/live percussion jam focussing on hard 70s West African funk and voodoo rhythms. Bell & Howl provide the improv film loops. Starts at 9, 21+ at the Elevens. $10. This is a non-corporate, independently produced Afro music jam that could destroy you if you think of that weak Putumayo shit. Fuck that. Come listen and reach that stateless state of enlightenment. Details or death threats to Andujar: 413-325-3382. Fuck pussy noise crap. This is truly monster.
