HC NECROCINEMA presents TOM JOSLIN FILM SERIES

TOM JOSLIN FILM SERIES

Tom Joslin was an independent filmmaker who taught at Hampshire College from 1971-1981. Tom passed away in 1990 leaving his film, "The Architecture of the Mountains," unfinished. The film was reassembled by Ben Balcom, Sam Shapiro, and Abraham Ravett in an attempt to reconstruct what Tom originally intended. Necrocinema will screen Joslin's two earlier works, "Silver lake Life: The View From Here" (1993) and "Blackstar: Autobiography of a Close Friend" (1976) in the week leading up to the screening of the unseen work, "The Architecture of Mountains" (2010)

FRIDAY, MARCH 25, 7 P.M.
Blackstar: Autobiography of a Close Friend (1976)
"An autobiographical film. The filmmaker has assembled a collage of scenes with family and friends, home movies, cartoon clips, and time lapse photography. The film focuses on issues surrounding the filmmaker's "coming out" concerning his homosexuality, and his relationship with his family and his lover, Mark. Throughout, the filmmaker rarely speaks--only questions, while others dissect his life. Finally, he speaks to describe his purpose in making the film--an end to lying about himself." (Five College Libraries Catalog)
